Maersk: More Triple E ships could be anchored

Maersk Line cannot rule out that it will have to anchor another of its massive Triple E ships in connection with the Chinese New Year.

Maersk Line’s decision to anchor one of its 20 18,000 teu Triple E ships for six weeks clearly illustrates the troubles the entire container industry is in at the moment. And according to the carrier, it might not be an isolated occurrence to see one of the ultra large vessels anchored in a bid to adjust capacity.

“We basically expect to see it with additional 18,000 teu vessels. Not now, but maybe in connection with the Chinese New Year (in February, ed.) it’s not impossible that we might have to anchor an 18,000 teu ship,” says senior press officer Michael Storgaard.
