SeaIntel: Shipowners' surcharges could hit shippers hard

Shippers should carefully consider which carrier to use if they want to eliminate the risk of being hit with significant so-called detention & demurrage charges, D&D, which carriers issue when the shippers' container spend stay longer in terminals than agreed upon by the parties.

According to analysts SeaIntel, there are major differences in size between the D&D surcharges carriers fine customers, and between how long carrier allow customers to have their container in a terminal before charging them extra.
