Regardless of which of the two presidential candidates, Democrat Hillary Clinton or Republican Donald Trump, takes over the White House early next year, the outcome of the US presidential election on Tuesday could have far-reaching consequences for the North American container market, projects analyst firm Drewry on the basis of the two candidates' campaigns.

"US containerized imports and exports look set to take a beating whichever candidate the electorate backs. Both presidential candidates have been vocal and resolute that domestic trade is to be favored over international trade, which will ultimately impact on the container trade serving North America," notes Drewry.
