Maersk Line buys Hamburg Süd

Maersk Line confirms acquisition of Hamburg Süd. The deal is expected completed by late 2017 and will boost Maersk Line's global capacity to 18.6 percent

The world largest container carrier, Maersk Line, will acquire German reefer specialist Hamburg Süd.

The confirmation from Maersk Line comes after weeks of intense speculation that the Danish container carrier was gearing up to acquire Hamburg Süd, which is owned by the German Oetker family and specializes in reefer transport – refrigerated containers – on the north-south trade to and from South America in particular.
