Teekay Tankers opts for distillates to meet sulfur requirements

Major tanker carrier Teekay Tankers has announced that it will sail on distillates in order to comply with the international sulfur requirements when they come into force on Jan. 1, 2020. A large part of the world's carriers have yet to decide how to approach the sulfur cap.

Teekay Tankers has opted for distillates out of several options to comply with the international sulfur requirements which will enter into force in 2020.

Until this time, the sulfur content of ship fuel must not exceed 0.5 percent or alternatively, must have installed a scrubber on board. As such, shipowners are currently investigating all possible methods to comply with the sulfur requirements.
