Analysis: Sanctions have returned oil transport to Iranian shipowners

The US sanctions against Iran will come into force Monday. Many European crude tankers have pulled out of the market, but the sanctions have not stopped the Iranian oil from reaching the market, shows a new analysis from Danish Shipping.

Even though the US sanctions against Iran will come into force on Monday, it does not seem like the Iranian crude oil transport has suffered much from US President Donald Trump's reintroduction of sanctions against the country.

According to a new analysis from Danish Shipping, the sanctions have primarily meant that many oil cargoes have returned to Iranian operators, while European tanker carriers have withdrawn from the country in fear of US penalties.
