Avance: Consolidation urgent in spite of Dorian pool

The new VLGC pool between Dorian LNG and Phoenix does not change Avance's clear-cut goal of achieving consolidation among the biggest players, Avance CEO Christian Andersen tells ShippingWatch.

The need for increased consolidation in the VLGC segment has not changed even though Dorian LNG and Phoenix Tankers - a subsidiary of Japanese MOL - will launch a pool collaboration for their major gas vessels, starting January 2015, the CEO of Norwegian Avance Gas, Christian Andersen, tells ShippingWatch after the American and Japanese-owned carriers announced their pool collaboration last week.

"I think it's very positive that we're seeing consolidation, and it's good to see Dorian LPG and Phoenix join forces in a pool collaboration. With Tim Hansen as head of chartering at Dorian, I'm confident that this will be a good collaboration. We've worked on the long-term toward consolidation among the bigger players in the business. A pool collaboration such as this one does not change our ambitions to secure further consolidation in terms of ownership," Christian Andersen tells ShippingWatch.
