Financial crisis still looms over container carrier earnings

Although the financial crisis hit the global economy and the entire shipping world ten years ago, its impacts on the container market can still be felt, says Alphaliner in a new analysis.

Liner shipping companies are still far from where they were ten years ago when the financial crisis struck.

In a new analysis, Alphaliner points out that container carriers in 2018 are still fighting two consequences left after the crisis: a large, idle fleet and a significant decline in average charter rates compared to 2008.
