Major container carriers have ordered over 500 scrubbers

The world's largest container carriers have ordered over 500 scrubbers in total. MSC is hot on the heels of Evergreen in terms of scrubber orders, while three carriers are holding back, shows a study from Alphaliner.

With just nine months until the IMO's sulfur regulations take effect, container carriers' total number of scrubber orders has exceeded 500, reports Alphaliner.

Container carriers have ordered 540 scrubbers in total and breaking down the orders into individual players, MSC is in the lead. According to Alphaliner's estimates, the carrier has ordered 180 scrubbers for its own, embedded fleet. To finance 86 of the scrubbers, MSC has secured a DKK 439 million (USD 66.23 million) loan.
