Alexander Englund had more time for his daughter when DFDS closed down

When DFDS shut down in March, Alexander Englund and 1,000 of his colleagues were sent home with pay. The uncertainty was the worst. But with a nine-month-old daughter, the timing was not bad, the 32-year-old officer tells ShippingWatch.

At the end of February, Alexander Englund sat in his cabin aboard DFDS' ferry, Crown.

The ferry was in the midst of its regular route between Copenhagen and Oslo, and he was on a break from his job as officer and head of the ship's bars and restaurants. Englund was watching the news. Italy was shutting down. Things were critical, it seemed.
