Startup established by former Maersk people has surpassed 1,000 ships

Two former Maersk employees are behind a company that aims to reduce ships' fuel consumption. So far more than 1,000 ships and customers such as Golden Ocean and Hapag-Lloyd have signed up. "You can choose to do it cheaply or you can choose to do it properly," co-founder tells ShippingWatch.

Almost six years have passed since Kristian Bendix Nielsen was contacted by his former Maersk colleague Jakob Buus Petersen, who had an idea for a company they should start together.

After spending a long time in a large organization, Nielsen was ready for a change and to stand on his own, and he was thus not difficult to convince. This has since resulted in company Vessel Performance Solutions, which analyzes ship data for the purpose of reducing ships' fuel consumption.
