New pirate attack off the coast of West Africa

Five ship officers onboard the 2,578 teu container ship City of Xiamen, chartered from Maersk Line by carrier Sunship, were held hostage by pirates that attacked the ship with two boats.

This is the third pirate attack within a short period of time off the coast of Nigeria, where pirate attacks are said to be of a more violent nature than on the eastern side of Africa.

According to media reports, five officers onboard the 2,578 teu container ship City of Xiamen, which carrier Sunship has chartered from Maersk Line, have been held hostage by pirates who attacked the ship.
