The Northern Sea Route Administration (NSR) has received 89 applications so far regarding sailing on the route. 54 ships have been granted permission to sail the Arctic route, writes the Barents Observer.
The number of ships sailing the Norther Sea Route has increased more than tenfold during recent years. 46 ships sailed the route in 2012, versus 34 ships in 2011 and just four ships in 2010.
