
The al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist network al-Shabab has been significantly weakened in recent years and no longer poses a direct maritime threat, says Jesper Melchior Hansen, duty watch manager at Risk Intelligence. In a new report, the security analysts have studied the developments of the terrorist group, and the conclusion comes as good news for shipping:
"Al-Shabab does not pose a direct martime threat," he tells ShippingWatch, pointing in particular to international efforts, from Kenya especially, aimed at the group since 2011 as a contributing factor in the developments.
