Scorpio orders 22 dry bulk vessels for USD 1.2 billion

Scorpio Bulkers has placed an order for 22 dry bulk newbuildings for a total price of USD 1.17 billion.

Monaco/New York-based carrier Scorpio Bulkers announced today that the company has placed yet another giant order, this time for 22 dry bulk newbuildings, says the company in a press release on Monday.

The order is worth USD 1.71 billion and includes 20 Capesize and two Kamsarmax dry bulk vessels. The ships will be delivered between 1st quarter 2015 and 3rd quarter 2016.

The ships will be delivered from four different yards. A majority of the Capesize vessels will be built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., while the remaining ships will be delivered from Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries S.A., and Hudong-Zhonghua (Group) Co., Ltd.

Scorpio Bulkers' total orderbook includes 28 Ultramax, 23 Kamsarmax and 23 Capesize dry bulk vessels, to be built at shipyards in Japan, Korea, China and Romania.
