Greek shipowners in 2013 newbuilding boom

During the past year Greek shipowners invested massively in new ships. Investments in ships totaled more than USD 13 billions.

In 2013 Greek investors continued to invest significantly in newbuildings, with orders placed for over 275 ships of more than 24.5 million dwt.

The high number of orders increased the Greek dwt by a total 364 percent, and the shipowners ordered ships for a record-high sum of more than USD 13 billion combined. As such, Greek shipowners accounted for 25 percent of the total amount of ship orders placed last year, according to Carbon Positive.
