IMO expects clarity on ballast water in January

It remains uncertain whether the most recent ratifications of the convention on ballast water are enough to make the highly anticipated requirements take effect. Closer than ever, says the IMO.

Closer than ever.

These are the words from the IMO in an update to the ballast water convention, after Morocco, Indonesia and Ghana all ratified it in November. Since then, the shipping industry has anxiously awaited clarity on the issue of whether the last three countries are enough to have the convention take effect. And this is still being verified, states the IMO.
