New owners are entering Norwegian shipping

Norwegian shipowners and major parts of the country's shipping industry have now witnessed an omen about what is soon to come, a professor tells Norwegian daily Dagens Næringsliv regarding the crisis in Norwegian shipping.

Solstad Shipping's recent takeover of supply carrier Rem Offshore could be first sign that things are changing in Norway's shipping industry, which is currently characterized by major debt and idled vessels.

"The shipowners and the rest of the industry have now seen a serious omen about what is soon to come," Ola H. Grytte, Professor at the Norwegian School of Economics, tells Norwegian business daily Dagens Næringsliv.
