Fearnley: This is how shipping segments will unfold

Analyst firm Fearnley has spent one week in Asia trying to assess the status of the shipping industry in Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo. Based on visits to a number of key players in the shipping industry, Fearnley projects a bleaker future than previously anticipated.

Last week, Fearnley Securities visited a number of leading shipping players in Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo. The purpose of the trip was to assess the status of the different shipping segments, and after visiting players such as Mitsui, Stena and BW, the analyst agency emerged with a slightly more negative impression of the industry's future.

"Overall, we return with a slightly more negative outlook on the main segments," writes Fearnleys in a report on Monday. However, the overall forecast covers variations in the different segments.
