Carriers are liable when hacker attacks occur

The Turkish mafia controlled parts of the Port of Antwerp for years. This led to defeats for container carriers MSC and Hamburg Süd in two remarkable court cases.

Theft and blackmail constitute the greatest risk in terms of cyber attacks on the shipping industry. And carriers will often be held entirely liable.

This is evident from two appeal court cases this spring, where MSC and Hamburg Süd were sentenced to pay the costs in remarkable cases, in which the Turkish mafia hacked the container terminal at the Port of Antwerp for years.
