Danish Shipping calls for carbon levy on shipping

Danish Shipping supports the statement from the Norwegian Shipowners' Association made in comments to ShippingWatch on Monday. There is a need for a global levy or tax on carbon, and the IMO needs to put the issue on its agenda as quickly as possible, says Anne H. Steffensen, director general of Danish Shipping.

The statement from the Norwegian Shipowners' Association in which it calls for a levy or tax on fossil fuels is met with support from Danish Shipping.

Harald Solberg, CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association, said in an interview with ShippingWatch that shipping will not realize its carbon reduction target if it only introduces the regulations which the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee, MEPC, recently sent forward in the process.
