Norway has issued 15 notices, but refrains from taking ballast water samples

In a span of three years, Norwegian authorities have issued 15 notices to vessels for failing to comply with environmental regulations related to ballast water. Yet the authorities are refraining from taking ballast water samples. The reasoning is that since these only provide an indication, they would be useless in a criminal case.

Over the past three years, Norwegian authorities have issued 15 notices to vessels for violating environmental rules related to ballast water.

This is evident from a list of violations registered between 2018 and 2021, which has been forwarded by the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) to ShippingWatch.
