If terminal operators, trucking companies and other land-based players do not join Maersk's major digital venture, Tradelens, voluntarily, the Danish shipping company is capable of forcing them into joining, because they are already part of Maersk's supply chain, Maersk's CEO Søren Skou Thursday last week during a press meeting in connection with the presentation of the company's half-year interim report.
"We are working to increase the network by adding land-based members. Here, we're talking about terminal operators, trucking companies, railroads and warehousing hubs and so on. It's much easier for us because they're our suppliers, so we can basically force them to slowly join the platform. Because if they want to do business with us they have to supply data," said Skou.
