Klaveness says no thanks to scrubbers after test

Major players such as Maersk are not the only ones opting not to use scrubbers. Norwegian Klaveness also deems the technology too expensive and uncertain.

Scrubber systems are not the solution for dry bulk and tanker operators, says Norway's Torvald Klaveness, which after a long testing process has decided not to use scrubbers for its compliance with the approaching global sulfur cap.

"Of course if the technology becomes better and cheaper, the math might look better, but for now we're not planning to invest in scrubbers, and I've only heard about very few who are investing in scrubbers in our business area," Klaveness CEO Lasse Kristoffersen tells ShippingWatch.
