Ericsson steps up its big data ambitions in shipping

Ericsson has signed a strategic agreement with the world's largest provider of satellite communications, Inmarsat. The companies will promote data sharing in the maritime industry.

Ericsson is forging ahead with its shipping industry ambitions and has signed a strategic agreement with the world's largest satellite provider Inmarsat to develop data solutions for maritime players, the two companies inform in a press release.

Initially, the telecommunications group signed a distribution contract for the provision of Inmarsat's network express link (broadband) for the maritime market.
