Shipowners ordered more wind installation ships in 2021 than ever before

A record-high number of offshore wind installation ships were ordered in 2021, reveal figures from Clarksons Platou, also showing increased day rates for larger vessels.

Orders for the large wind turbine installation vessels (WTIVs), used for installing wind turbines at sea, soared to unseen heights in 2021.

More than 17 WTIVs were commissioned throughout the year with options for an additional nine, writes analyst firm Clarksons Platou based on final figures for 2021. The number is the highest ever within a year.
