Carver Maritime is suing the owner and operator of the MSC Michigan, which last week lost control near the Arthur J. Ravenal Bridge in Charleston, South Carolina, and allegedly then struck a pier.

The ship has been arrested by local authorities, according to several media outlets, including Safety4sea.

The Charleston bridge was closed for several hours when the ship lost control and drifted under the bridge, where it anchored at a safe distance.

According to court documents, the ship struck the pier before it anchored. The pier is owned and operated by Carver Maritime.

Carver Maritime says another ship was docked at the pier at the time, which was also damaged in the collision.

The incident comes just a few months after the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed when the Maersk-chartered ship Dalí collided with a supporting column on the bridge during a power outage on board.
