Clipper Group considers more eco newbuildings

Clipper Group is currently considering further investments in newbuildings in dry bulk, in lieu of the favorable shipyard rates, which make the new eco designs highly attractive, says CEO Gary Vogel, Clipper Group, to ShippingWatch.

Clipper Group is currently considering further newbuildings in light of the highly attractive rates at the yards combined with several conditions making certain dry bulk segments attractive on the long term.

"We feel that the newbuilding prices are compelling, especially when adjusted for inflation, and there are certain segments in dry bulk where the demography is attractive. For instance, 30 percent of the handysize fleet and ships built in the 1980s just aren't profitable in today's market. And the new eco designs mean that newbuidling investments are becoming even more attractive in terms of operation compared to many ships built just a few years ago," Clipper Group CEO Gary Vogel tells ShippingWatch.
