Singapore shipping: Difficult to attract youth

Singapore has appointed a task force to entice young people into the maritime world, says Michael Phoon, who is executive director of Singapore Shipping Association to ShippingWatch. Young people are not drawn to the industry.

It is difficult to look out on the Strait of Malacca without spotting a crane or a ship. Singapore's is virtually plastered with port facilities all the way around the small island. But even though Singapore can boast of having one of the world's busiest ports, shipping is not an industry that attracts the country's youth.
