Seafarers' wages now increasing again

Shipowners' manning costs increased slightly in 2018 after stagnating for several years. A continuing shortage of maritime officers could still hurt shipowners on the long term, concludes Drewry.

Costs related to manning have more or less stagnated in recent years as shipowners have drawn on all measures available to reduce expenses and adapt their business to the sluggish shipping markets.
