A new report says that the global market for ballast water cleaning systems will grow to around USD 8.5 billion within a five-year period. Crucial IMO meeting next week on ballast water.

Maritime suppliers such as Desmi, Wärtsilä, and Bawat, all of whom manufacture ballast water cleaning systems, can most likely expect a solid boost in their business. A new report developed by analysts BBC Research concludes that the global market for ballast water systems will grow 32.9 percent ahead of 2018.

The market was priced at almost USD 1.4 billion in 2012, and is expected to reach USD 2.1 billion in 2013. According to BBC Research, that figure will reach USD 8.5 billion in 2018, a development that will especially be caused by the future IMO ballast water convention, which requires ships to install these systems to clean the ships' ballast water, keeping them from polluting the world seas with invasive species.
