The benefit of higher Asia-Europe rates was short

After a significant improvement last week, the development for the freight rates between Asia and Europe is back to the sad story of the past weeks: Major declines.

On the heavy trade route from Asia to North Europe, the price to freight a twenty-foot container (teu) fell 25 percent to USD 833 this week.

Last week, the spot rates had otherwise jumped 177 percent, or USD 709, to USD 1109 per teu on the route. But this came on the heels of a decline of 20-26 percent in the previous three weeks, which has now happened again.
