IMO: Northern Sea Route the most important arctic route

In the coming five years, the Northern Sea Route will be the most important shipping lane for navigation and passage in the Arctic, says IMO’s Secretary General, Koji Sekimizu.

IMO’s Secretary General, Koji Sekimizu, has great expectations for the Northern Sea Route and goes against the common belief that it will be many years before arctic sailing becomes mainstream.

“As far as I see the forthcoming five years, the Northern Sea Route will be the main shipping lane for navigation and passage,” he said in an interview with Russian media, IAA PortNews, during his visit to the country.
