Odfjell whistleblowers receive massive reward

A US judge has ruled that two crew members on an Odfjell chemical tanker vessel will receive half of the fine the carrier was sentenced to pay in March for emptying water from the ships tanks into the ocean.

Two crew members on board chemical tanker vessel "Bow Lind" from Norwegian carrier Odfjell have been awarded almost half a million dollars in the US for acting as whisteblowers by notifying the US Coast Guard that the ship had violated the law by emptying its water tanks into the ocean after cleaning the ship's engine room, according to Norwegian newspapers Dagens Næringsliv and Dagbladet.
