Around EUR 268 per person. That is how much the EU Commission is ready to provide - through the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) - to 565 fired shipyard employees from South Korean-owned STX Finland Oy. The money, a total of EUR 1.4 million, will be used to prepare and train the former employees for new job opportunities.

"The crisis has accelerated the transformation of the shipbuilding sector, with much of this industry moving to Asia. This proposal for EUR 1.4 million from Europe's Globalisation Fund would help prepare the dismissed workers for new job opportunities in other promising sectors," says EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, László Andor, in a  statement.
