Police are investigating Statoil after leak

A disaster nearly struck at Statoil's Norwegian oil refinery Mongstad in October 2016. In relation to an inspection, a leak was found springing from a gas pipe with a diameter of 15 centimeters. When the operating technician tried to close it, the valve became loose and the pipe broke off. The incident was classified as a code red and 600 employees were evacuated. In its own report, Statoil determined that the result could have entailed fatalities.
