Shell seeks compromise in case surrounding scrapped platform

An oil drama is playing out off the Shetland Islands regarding the decommissioning of a platform – or rather the lack thereof. Oil major Shell is in the line of fire but is supported in its desire for a compromise.

Shell might be allowed to leave four decommissioned oil platforms floating at sea.

The German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety has said that Shell's desire to leave the platforms may be accomodated to some degree, as long as no oil enters the sea, writes media Energy Voice citing ministry spokesperson Stephan Haufe.
