Major bank: Mærsk, Fredriksen and Odfjell should join forces in drilling

It makes sense for Maersk Drilling, Odfjell Drilling and Northern Ocean to be merged, says Danske Bank. The latter two have Helene Odfjell and John Fredriksen as major shareholders, and both could see smaller ownership stakes following a merger, the bank projects.

Drilling company Maersk Drilling ought to merge with competitors Odfjell Drilling and Northern Ocean to bolster itself against competitors, concludes Danske Bank in a new analysis on the drilling rig market.

As such, the major bank sets the stage for a large-scale merger in the otherwise strained sector between companies that all have well-known Nordic shipping families such as Mærsk, Fredriksen and Odfjell as major stakeholder.
