Nordea did not issue a single new loan to offshore customers in 2020. The pressure on the industry created increased risk, which the bank is trying to limit by not issuing loans to new customers. Danske Bank will also limit its exposure to the sector going forward.

Nordic banking major Nordea did not issue a single new loan to customers in the offshore sector in 2020.

The strain on offshore is currently so significant that the risk associated with providing loans to the industry is too great. Nordea is therefore undergoing a process to lower its risk portfolio and its loans, explains Thor-Erik Bech, head of International Shipping and Offshore at Nordea, in an interview with ShippingWatch.

3i buys AMP out of Esvagt

Private equity firm 3i, which owns half of carrier Esvagt, has agreed with the company's second owner, AMP Capital, to take over all of Esvagt for GBP 268 million, making 3i the sole owner. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2022.
