Price cap on Russian oil products could prevent global diesel shortage

A price ceiling on refined oil products from Russia will make tanker shipowners feel more safe about transporting products to third countries, thereby preventing a global shortfall of diesel and higher oil prices.

When the European Union in February implements a ban on imports of Russian oil products, it should be accompanied by a price cap on these products when sold to third countries. Otherwise, the world risks a shortage of diesel, writes French ship broker BRS in its weekly tanker market analysis.
