A new drilling is underway, guaranteed to rile environmental organizations, in the Norwegian part of the Barents Sea.
The Norwegian Oil Directory, Oljedirektoratet, says in a statement that Statoil and the company's partners in license 615 have been given a green light for their second drilling in the area, which is located east of Svalbard. The first drilling permit resulted in Greenpeace boarding the drilling rig Transocean Spitsbergen. The same rig will handle the next drilling.
