Statoil makes first move north of the Arctic Circle

A billion-dollar gas project on the Norwegian shelf, Aasta Hansteen, pushes the Norwegian gas business north of the Arctic Circle for the first time, says Statoil.

The billion-dollar Aasta Hansteen project on the Norwegian shelf is pushing boundaries, says Torolf Christensen, Statoil's head of the field - which was discovered back in 1997 - in a press release.

"Aasta Hansteen is one of the biggest and most complex industrial projects in Europe. With the Polarled pipeline we are taking the Norwegian gas infrastructure northward across the Arctic Circle for the first time," he says.
