Port of Hamburg sees drop in cargo volumes leveling out

Container volumes sent through Port of Hamburg went down in the third quarter by close to 5 percent, to 2.3 million teu, a significantly lower drop than in the previous quarter. This could indicate a turnaround in the economy, says Germany's biggest port.

The German and European economy could be headed for better days, if one goes by the development in cargo volumes sent through Germany's biggest port, Hamburg.

While cargo volumes and container throughput plunged steeply in the year's second quarter, as Germany and most of Europe were hit by lockdowns and sliding demand due to the coronavirus pandemic, things looked much better in the third quarter, according to an update from the Port of Hamburg.
