APM Terminals prepares for major investments in Brazil

Over the next three years, Maersk’s port company plans to upgrade five Brazilian port terminals.

APM Terminals, owned by A.P. Moller - Maersk, intends to invest heavily in its port terminals in Brazil over the next three years, the company informs in a press release.

Leading up to 2026, a total of EUR 962m will be injected into Brazilian terminal facilities. EUR 296m have been set aside for investments in the initial phase of a new terminal in Suape, one of the easternmost points in Brazil, just south of metropolis Recife.

Besides that, EUR 666m will go to APM Terminals’ other four port terminals in the country, of which EUR 285m are directed towards facilities in the city Santos.

According to the Maersk subsidiary, there are ongoing negotiations with authorities regarding an extension of concessions once these expire by the end of 2027. In relation thereto, APM Terminals plans to increase capacity in Santos from the current 1.5 million teu per year.
