The European Council has now approved the port directive which has been a long time underway at the European Union.
The most recent document in the directive, titled Port Services Regulation, has previously faced harsh criticism from the European Community Shipowners' Association (ECSA) because it does not indicate a liberalization of the market for sectors including piloting services. The directive, however, gets a warm welcome from the pilots themselves.
