A few days before its market entry, Maersk's prestige project Tradelens seems to be more about buzz than substance, say several observers on the blockchain technology developed by Maersk and IBM since the beginning of the year, with the intention of setting a standard for the shipping and logistics industry on a global scale.

The aim was originally to get the world's largest carriers on board with Tradelens and to remove the need for heavy paper work in the industry by establishing a joint system with secure sharing of information.
