Ståle Hansen needed a change of scenery when he went for an interview for a job as business controller with the Norwegian company Skuld in 2002. One of the first things he was presented with was the insurance company’s annual report, which was full of red numbers. Ståle Hansen was looking at a company in economic distress, on the verge of dropping below the minimum capital requirements from the FSA.
