West Africa has in recent years become an increasingly bigger hot-spot in the sense that countries in the region are starting to export commodities such as minerals. Most ports in West Africa have undergone restructuring processes, many of them becoming commercialized - and this development has resulted in a long line of jobs for Danish consulting engineers Niras.
"Our jobs range from general port planning to project management during the construction phase, something we've done in several ports in Nigeria. We're acting as consultants in a process to implement a national master plan for all the country's ports - a process that includes looking at the economies of developing nations in terms of expected traffic, environmental impact, as well as describing and planning the individual terminal facilities, and many other things. We've been doing this for a series of port authorities in numerous West African countries, and there's a potential for many additional jobs for us in the region," says Jesper Harder, Director, Niras Ports and Maritime.
