Bimco: Trade war will have limited impact on volumes

The looming global trade war will have a limited impact on shipping transport volumes, but it could affect carriers in other ways, says an analyst from shipping organization Bimco.

The budding trade war between the US and China and the EU has impacted share prices of shipping companies which transport goods globally. But looking at transported volumes, the effect will be limited. However, the conflict could have an impact in terms of increasing distances that carriers need to sail in order to transport goods, predicts Peter Sand, chief shipping analyst from shipping lobby organization Bimco.
