Dry bulk rates reach highest level in five years

The Baltic Dry Index, which measures dry bulk freight rates, reached its highest level in five years Monday. Following several difficult years and a surprisingly poor start to 2019, optimism is starting to spread.

Dry bulk index Baltic Dry grew 3.4 percent Monday to 1,928 points, show data from Bloomberg News.

Monday's level is the highest in five years, and the Baltic Dry Index has thus not been higher since the winter of 2014.
